Where can I purchase Nova?
Nova is available to purchase at nova.app/buy for $99 USD, plus any applicable tax.
Does Nova require a subscription?
No and yes! Nova uses a hybrid model. When you purchase Nova, you will always have access to the version of Nova you bought. You will also receive any major updates released over the next year at no extra cost.
However, once that one year period is over, you will not receive any further major updates until you renew your license. (You can keep using the latest version of Nova you were eligible for indefinitely, however!)
In this context, major updates refers to major version numbers. For instance, if you have Nova 12 and your license has expired, you will still be able to update to Nova 12.1 or Nova 12.2 as they are released. However, you won’t be able to update to Nova 13 until you renew.
Why is Nova sold this way?
Traditionally, our apps have had free minor updates, and paid major updates.
But we’ve always hated having to artificially “hold back” great new features for months — or even years — to roll them into paid major updates. With Nova, we want to release new features the moment they are done, and constantly iterate and and improve the app, and selling Nova this way makes this possible!
We think we’ve found a great balance: you get total ownership of your app for a one-time fee, and we get the opportunity to constantly improve the application for people who love getting the latest features.
What payment methods are supported?
At the moment, we support credit or debit cards for both an initial purchase of Nova as well as renewing a license. Apple Pay is also supported for initial purchases, but not for renewals.
No other payment methods, such as PayPal, are supported at this time.
How much does it cost to renew my license?
You can renew an existing license for $49 USD per year. This price remains the same no matter how long ago your license expired, so there’s no penalty if you choose not to renew immediately. Each renewal gets you access to the latest version of Nova at the time of renewal, and one year of further updates.
How do I renew an existing license?
License renewals can be managed at accounts.panic.com. When you first purchase Nova, an account will automatically created for you using the email address you provided when ordering. You may need to reset your password the first time you log in.
Once you’ve signed into accounts.panic.com, you can set up automatic renewals for your Nova license, or choose to perform a one-time renewal.
How do I disable automatic renewals?
Automatic renewals can be disabled at accounts.panic.com as well.
My license has expired. Where can I find the last version of Nova I am eligible for?
When you log into accounts.panic.com, your Nova license details will include a download link to the last version of Nova your license is compatible with.
You can also find older versions of Nova in the Panic File Museum.
This purchase should be VAT-exempt. Where do I enter my VAT ID?
At the moment, we don’t have a way to prevent tax/VAT from being charged at the time of purchase. Please contact us after purchasing and provide your order number and tax number/VAT ID. We can refund any tax charged and provide an updated invoice if needed.
Are there any discounts available?
We always offer two discounts on Nova:
- 20% off for Coda users: Just enter your Coda serial number at checkout to receive this discount.
- 25% off for students and school faculty: Contact us from your school email address, or provide us a photo of your school ID, and we can provide a promo link.
These discounts do not stack, so we recommend students and school faculty take advantage of our education discount. We also run occasional sales — keep an eye on nova.app or Panic’s social media accounts to learn when any offers are available!
Do you offer multi-seat licenses?
Not at this time, but this is something we’d like to offer in the future!
Can I use a Nova license on multiple Macs?
Yes! Your Nova license can be used on as many Macs as you need, as long as you’re the only one using it. We only ask that you purchase additional licenses if there will be additional users.
